The Doctoral Program in Public Affairs at the College of Health and Public Affairs invites applications for a 12-month tenured associate or full professor position to serve as program director, to begin August 2017. Salary is contingent upon experience.

Duties: This innovative and effective leader will serve as program director of the college-wide Doctoral Program in Public Affairs. The successful candidate will bring a vision of how doctoral education can strengthen communities and change lives by creating interdisciplinary solutions to complex social problems. The program director is expected to guide the vision and the operational management of the program to advance and grow its mission related to applied research, social justice and community engagement.  We seek a leader who has the management and research skills, creativity and vision to guide the program in its quest to deliver top-quality education, mentor faculty, grow the department’s research agenda and provide service to the community. The ideal candidate will exhibit excellent collaboration and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to enhance the interdisciplinary environment within the program.

The Doctoral Program in Public Affairs comprises an interdisciplinary core involving Social Work, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Health Services Management and Research. The program recently revised its curriculum and provides students with an intensive interdisciplinary perspective. This program is the college’s flagship Ph.D. program – ranked by the National Research Council in the top 25% of Public Policy doctoral programs. The program has more than 120 graduates throughout the world and a current enrollment of 65 students. Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate should have an earned doctorate or Ph.D. in Public Affairs, Urban Studies, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution;  a record of scholarly work and external funding in the area of public affairs; and  a minimum of two years administrative experience and/or documented leadership within a university structure. The successful candidate will be a person who would be eligible for appointment as a tenured associate or full professor upon hire and, therefore, have a distinguished record of scholarly work and external funding commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate or full professor in one of the core areas of Social Work, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or Health Services Management and Research.

Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate should have evidence of: (a) effective leadership and community engagement; (b) experience in interdisciplinary education; (c) effective interpersonal and communication skills; and (d) commitment to high-quality education through curriculum development, quality teaching and working with doctoral students.   A record of nationally recognized scholarship evidenced by peer reviewed publications and presentations and a record of external funding.
