Minor in Public Administration

If you have an interest in working for the public sector, you may want to consider the Minor in Public Administration. The minor provides knowledge in public administration theory and process, administrative writing, fiscal management and human resource administration. As with the bachelor’s degree, the minor is oriented toward local government, growth management and the environment.

PAD 3003: Public Administration in American Society

This courses examines the basic environment, culture, and organization of public administration in the United States.
Prerequisite: POS 2041

PAD 3733: Professional Administrative Writing in the Public Sector

This course covers professional and technical writing for the field of public administration.
Prerequisite: POS 2041

PAD 4034: The Administration of Public Policy

This course introduces problems of values, interests, and objectives and their impact on the administration of public programs, stressing the interplay between social values, policies and administration.
Prerequisites: PAD 3003 and PAD 3733

PAD 4104: Administrative Theory

This course provides a review of the behavioral aspects of the administrative process, its impact on organizational goal achievement and on supervisory strategies.

PAD 4204: Fiscal Management

This class covers an analysis of methods of securing public funds, the process of budget making, and techniques of management used in managing public
funds.

PAD 4414: Human Resource Administration

This course covers the history, operating components, structural characteristics, and increasing impact of laws and related sanctions on personnel practices of public agencies.

PAD 4720: Survey Research in Public Administration

An introduction to the concepts, design, methodology, computer applications, and data analysis in applied research in the public sector.

Students pursuing this undergraduate minor must be in a degree-seeking program, and the minor is awarded at completion of the degree program. This is an open-enrollment program, which means that there is no application process. Rather, students must complete an electronic minor declaration form.
