Biography

My current research interests focus on community health with emphasis on diabetes, vision disorders, and college student health. The main goal is to understand the role of environment and human factors on the development of human disease, and how these factors contribute to healthier individuals and communities. Within the community health research, some of my projects capitalized on college health at UCF. Additionally, I have studies vision health and diabetes with emphasis on understanding the connection with the prevention and health education. My main research interests can be grouped into:

  • Eye Pathology and Visual Impairment: factors affecting early diagnosis and treatment outcomes of diabetic eye disease, particularly in diabetic retinopathy.
  • Diabetes and Neurologic Diseases: diagnostic indicators in metabolic disorders including diabetes and peripheral neuropathy.
  • College Student Health: health practices and factors affecting health outcomes among college students.
