First, do no harm…to future generations. This is the underlying principle of sustainability. This applies in our financial systems, natural ecosystems, organizations, relationships, and public policies and programs. As our community leaders strive to create healthy communities, we must ask about how to meet the needs of our current generation without doing harm to those who will follow us.

Professors and students with the Center for Public and Nonprofit Management are asking these tough questions in a variety of areas, including the study of public pension systems, the strength of community-based nonprofit organizations in responding to natural and manmade disasters, and the commitment and efficacy of nonprofit governing boards.
