30 Under 30: Nicholas Gurney ’11
Nicholas Gurney ’11 graduated from the Burnett Honors College with a degree in legal studies. In law school at the University of Florida, Gurney received the Helen Gibel Blechman Pro Bono Award for donating more free legal services than any other ’16 graduate. After receiving his J.D. , Gurney joined the firm of Kanner and Pintaluga, P.A. in Boca Raton, where he chaired the firm’s Premises Liability Division. Now, Gurney works for Newsome Melton, a full-service law firm in Orlando, handling product defect, wrongful death, medical malpractice, person injury and tobacco litigation.
Gurney is passionate about community service and his time at UCF. He has worked alongside HOPE South Florida, serving the homeless population of Broward County and is an avid supporter of the UCF Mock Trial Team, an organization in which he helped lead to a national tournament in 2011.
Gurney recently explained how his UCF degree helped advance his career: “For anyone planning on attending law school, a UCF legal studies degree is perhaps the best investment you can make. The course work here is the gold standard of what to expect at the next level. Law school isn’t easy, but my degree from UCF certainly made it easier.”
