Professional social workers are the nation's largest providers of mental health services.

Social work in health settings involves many areas, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, dialysis, Hospice, mental health, long-term care, substance abuse and rehabilitation of catastrophic injuries.

Social workers advocate for quality, affordable health care and resources, and they assist clients in navigating the complex health-care system. Forty percent of mental health professionals working with the Red Cross Disaster Services Human Resources system are social workers.
