Michael Rothenberg, program coordinator in the School of Social Work, has been invited join a panel on sex addiction at Sex Week at Yale (SWAY), a renowned interdisciplinary sex education program that explores issues of love, sex, intimacy and relationships. Relationship experts, authors, professors and television personalities will participate in the weeklong event, held Feb. 7-14, 2010, at Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
Kuotsai "Tom" Liou, professor of public admininstration, received the Pi Alpha Alpha Advisor of the Year Award at the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration's Annual Conference, held
Oct. 15-17 in Arlington, Va.
Anthony Kong, assistant professor of communication sciences and disorders, was recently interviewed about his research on Cantonese speakers with aphasia on the BBC's international radio show "Health Check." Click here and then click on "Listen" to hear his interview (starts at 20:52).
Stephen Holmes, associate professor of criminal justice, ranks 12th among the nation's top-producing authors of books on criminal justice, according to an article in the Southwest Journal of Criminal Justice (Vol. 6, No. 1, pp. 59-78). In addition, UCF ranks 10th among the nation's top-producing institutions of books on criminal justice.
Lee Ross, associate professor of criminal justice, has been invited to join the inaugural editorial board of Race and Justice: An International Journal, published by Sage Publications.
Congratulations to the 2009 graduates of the Public Service and Leadership Development Program, designed specifically for senior government inspectors from Turkey. The program offers an indepth study of the U.S. public administration system and extensive English-language courses. Click here to learn more.
The Florida Center for Nursing has been selected to lead a study on the use of simulation technology to educate RNs in Florida. Graduate student researchers from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders recently presented at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Schools Conference — a first in the history of the department. Click here for more information and photos.
Robin Kohn, social work instructor and B.S.W. coordinator, has been
reappointed as a member of the Council on Disability and Persons with
Disabilities for a three-year term, beginning this fall. The council
is part of the overall Council on Social Work Education.
Thomas T. H. Wan, associate dean for research and director of the Doctoral Program in Public Affairs, has been commended by U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida for completing four years of service as a scientific reviewer of grant applications to the National Institutes of Health. Wan served on the NIH's Health Services Organization and Delivery Study Section. Click here for further information.
Lauren Rehm, a legal studies major entering her senior year this fall, has been selected to receive the Alumni Fellows Scholarship from the UCF Alumni Association. The scholarship will provide $1,000 to support her education in 2009-2010. Rehm currently serves on the President's Leadership Council and Student Conduct Board, and is president of UCF's first Christian sorority.
Bahadir Sahin, a third-year doctoral student in public affairs, has received a national PERISHIP Award. This competitive dissertation award of $10,000 will enable Sahin to conduct field studies on crisis management in Spain, England, Turkey and the United States. His dissertation title is "Factors Influencing Effectiveness of Interorganizational Networks Among Crisis Management Organizations: A Comparative Perspective."
