Four Thousand Dollar Grant Awarded for Service Learning Course

The Cohen Foundation, a patron of the National American Humanics Office, has awarded a $2,000 grant to the American Humanics (AH) Program, which was matched by The Burnett Honors College, for a new project.

“Web-based Reflection on Service Learning: A Course Model,” is the result of a partnership between American Humanics and The Burnett Honors College and is a course in “service learning,” which promotes active participation in service experiences and extends learning beyond the classroom and into the community. This course, a model for other American Humanics programs nationwide, will also measure students’ career orientation at the beginning and the end of the course for changes in their attitudes toward career choices in nonprofits.

Melody Bowdon, a national expert in service learning, is in charge of the project and will be teaching the Honors Service Learning course.
