MINORS AND CERTIFICATES
Minor in Communication Sciences and Disorders
Prerequisites
This minor is open to all UCF undergraduates. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required in all course work used to satisfy the minor. Grades less than C- (1.75) are not accepted. Credit by exam (TSD, military credit), internship or independent study cannot be used toward the minor.
Program of Study
As part of the Minor in Communication Sciences and Disorders, students take classes in subjects such as:
- Communication Disorders in Literature and Media
- Basic Phonetics with Lab
- Language Development: Birth through 8 Years
- Physiological Bases of Speech and Hearing
- Audiology
- Language Disorders Across the Lifespan
- Speech Disorders Across the Lifespan

After completing this minor plus one additional course approved by a faculty adviser, students are qualified to obtain a Florida Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Assistant license. For more information, please contact an academic adviser.
Application Process
There is no application process per se; rather students declare a minor. To declare a minor, a student must complete a Minor Declaration form, which can be obtained in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. This form must be signed by the student's adviser and the chair of the department.
Students are strongly urged to officially declare a minor as early as possible but no later than the submission of their "UCF Intent to Graduate Form." This form must be completed the semester before the student intends to graduate.
Minor in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies
