About this Photo

Senior Fulbright Scholar Jagannath Pati (left) from New Dehli, India, and Professor Lawrence Gary (right) from Howard University in Washington, D.C., traveled to Orlando in early April 2006 to participate in an event hosted by the School of Social Work and Florida Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. They are shown here with Associate Professor Paul Maiden (second from left) and Director and Professor Mary Van Hook at Van Hook's home.

Gary spoke on "African-American and Hispanic Youth: Challenges and Resources" at an April 5 luncheon that drew a large gathering of social work alumni, students and faculty members. Both alumni and students also visited a job fair sponsored by the school that morning. The activities were held at the FAIRWINDS Alumni Center.

Pati visited UCF for several days as part of a Fulbright scholarship to study children's services in the United States. In India, Pati is deputy director of the Central Adoption Resource Agency within the Ministry of Women and Children in New Delhi. While in Orlando, he attended the school's April 5 event, taught a class for social work graduate students on children's services in India and visited several social service agencies.

Proceeds from the event were donated to a scholarship established at UCF in memory of the late Dawn Brett, a former member of the social work faculty.
