Communication Sciences and Disorders Students and Faculty Earn
Awards at 2007 Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence
April 6, 2007 — Nearly 170 students
shared their research and creativity through poster presentations at UCF's 2007 Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence. Awards were given
for the best poster in each category, based on a team of faculty judges.
Winners from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders are identified
below.
(1) Undergraduate Claudia Nunez and Associate Professor Kenyatta Rivers won first
place in the Social Sciences II category for their work on the "Communication Disorders
Professionals' Perceptions about Death and Dying."
(2) Undergraduate Heather Heffernan and Assistant Professor Jamie Schwartz won
second place in the Social Sciences I category for their work on "Parents' Use of
Language Facilitation Strategies during Interactions with Their Child with Autism."
(3) Undergraduate Emilio Lobato, Dr. Larry Schutz and Associate Professor Kenyatta
Rivers won an "honorable mention" in the Social Sciences I category for their work on
the “Prevalence of Traumatic Brain Injury in Post-Secondary Schools."
