Orlando, Nov. 15, 2007 — Team 868 of the Mock Trial Team at UCF took first place in the John Donovan Division at Harvard University's Second Annual Crimson Challenge Mock Trial Invitational Tournament, held Nov. 9-10 in Boston.
The victorious group beat teams from 15 other universities competing in the division, including those from Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Cornell, Wellesley and Brown.
Team 868's members are (front row, left to right) Brenna Egan (captain), Erica Emas, Tiffany Colbert, Jessica Kennedy, (back row, left to right) Andrew Doyle, Sam Bird, Genesh Chen-Shue, Mike Quintero and Ben Abel.
Teams 869 and 870 from UCF also participated in this "extremely competitive tournament," said faculty coordinator and legal studies instructor Margarita Koblasz. "I'm very proud of all three UCF teams."
UCF also brought home three individual awards: Team 868 members Brenna Egan and Erica Emas earned Outstanding Attorney Awards and Team 870 member Marcus Rein earned an Outstanding Witness Award with a perfect score. He was one of only two competitors in the tournament to earn a perfect score as a witness.
"These students exemplify the high standards that UCF sets," Koblasz said. "It's amazing to watch them walk into a tournament and hear the whispers of other competitors, 'That's UCF,' spread throughout the room."
