Orlando, Feb. 12, 2007 — For the third year in a row, the Orlando Orthopaedic Center has combined its sponsoring of a seminar at UCF with a donation of funds to support the professional activities of UCF students.
The center's "Third Annual Cutting Edge Concepts in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine" seminar brought more than 300 physical therapists, athletic trainers, occupational therapists and physicians to UCF's Orlando campus on Feb. 3 for a daylong course on the latest in technology and surgical procedures used to treat orthopedic conditions and sports medicine injuries.
Helping at this year's seminar were members of UCF's Student Athletic Trainers Organization, which received a generous $1,600 check from the center.
According to Kristen Schellhase, director of UCF's Program in Athletic Training, the money was used to support the students' trip to a Student-SEATA (Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association) conference in Atlanta, held Feb. 10 and 11. It will also help fund the program's senior banquet later this spring.
The seminar instructors included UCF's Mitch Salter, who presented a 50-minute session on "Rehabilitation Considerations Following Meniscal Transplantation." "It was a unique opportunity to have an athletic trainer display expertise to other professions," Schellhase said.
